so, by now, i’m sure you all are very familiar with my dude zilla rocca, the MC-half of our hip-hop group, 5 o’clock shadowboxers. we’ve been slowly working on an EP called the slow twilight, which we probably would have had done if the two of us weren’t so fucking busy (me with readying the release of buttons for north caroline, and him dropping bring me the head of zilla rocca: the mixtape and gearing up for his solo debut, fall back friday), but i digress. anyhow, out of the tracks we like, there was one that didn’t make the cut, entitled “no fury.” the song, with a jungle-like backbeat and sample from tiny vipers’ “the downward,” was passed on by zilla after we both listened to the complete track. so, zilla himself remixed the song with a black keys sample (making it, by osmosis and common sense, a zilla rocca solo track). here are both tracks, along with zilla’s birthday present to me: FRESH CHERRIES FROM YAKIMA’S FIRST EXCLUSIVE, a freestyle over the beat to ghostface killah’s “stroke of death” (aka the one from supreme clientele that had the backwards scratch that was sort of annoying at first, but then really addictive after getting used to it), which will hopefully show all of you why zilla’s one of my favorite MC’s out right now. happy birthday.
