list season: bethanne siettas’ favorite albums of 2007.
bethanne’s top TWO albums!
yes, you read that correctly.
yes, 2007 was a great year for music. yes, there were a LOT of amazing albums released this year, but in my mind, there was really two that stood out in my mind. partly because once i got a hold of the shiny, plastic goodness, i couldn’t stop spinning the discs anywhere i go (or in my case, couldn’t bring myself to release the “repeat” feature on my ipod and itunes) so without further adeiu, the two records i constantly listen to (and love) that you should have:
*justice - cross (ed banger/vice) it’s a full-on fucking dance party and despite the fact that you barely have vocals (save for two tracks), this was the album of my summer and fall. i remember when air first came out and i couldn’t stop spinning moon safari for days. i never thought that another french electronic duo would capture my heart again - until i heard justice earlier this year. i literally flipped a shit and waited (impatiently) for cross (appropriately named for the cover art) to come out domestically. WORTH THE WAIT! it felt so awesome to have the record and to listen to it a whole bunch. i dare you to find a more daring record that came out this year. oh wait……..
*of montreal - hissing fauna, are you the destroyer? (polyvinyl) i was in the best record store in michigan - possibly ever, if martin didn’t live in the northwest - and hissing fauna was playing over the in-store PA. i was floored. i was sold. i bought it that day and took it home and just played it on a continuous loop for the next week. shocker: i was not into of montreal until i heard this album. and i am damn glad that i heard it and was able to enjoy it and get into of montreal. it’s an amazing record that came into my life when personal issues happened for me this year and when i listen to it, i think of that time and thank myself for being alive.
